Fukushima japan nuclear

IS IT SAFE?

This article goes on to make several accusations and claims concerning the current state of the clean up efforts at Fukushima-the most laughable being there are irradiated monkeys and pigs swarming the towns and villages along the coast. There certainly may be some of the animals around the facility that have higher levels of radiation exposure-but swarming is a ridiculous word to use.

What is true is that there continues to be many tens of thousands of Japanese who are displaced to this day. Even if they could return, it is difficult for many of them to trust anything said by anyone.

This is just a real hack piece of journalism and I am wondering if Patrick Knox ever left his desk to research this story. Please read below for the true current state of radiation levels around Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Facility.

I add this chart up front so we can understand two very stark facts about the Fukushima nuclear meltdown: One, this was no Cherynobl. And two, the area of contamination is fully contained. Though it will take half a century to dismantle the facility, the area of most concern-the deep parts of reactor number 2 are no longer a threat. Thus, the area around Fukushima is continuing to show normal radiation levels.

Note that Seoul, South Korea has a higher daily average of radiation exposure then almost all the rest of Fukushima prefecture.

The above map shows radiation levels one month after the melt down. Even at this early period the area of contamination is still no greater than 3 microseiverts.

By 2018, the areas of contamination are significantly reduced. The above three graphics can be seen and interacted with at this link: Fukushima Monitoring

The next three graphics above illustrate the current levels of radiation around the Daiichi Nuclear facility. Even at the height of the disaster, radiation levels are just slightly higher than what we all absorb from nature. The above graphics are from the Fukushima state run monitoring agency.

So because the information from the government is not trusted, I add here a graphic from the crowd sourced monitoring site at Safe Cast. Their monitoring corroborates what Japan is saying and particularly, Fukushima prefecture.

The bottom line: even now in 2018, news outlets are sensationalizing the 2011 Fukushima meltdown to sell product. The monitoring and news reporting has improved markedly as Japan understands the world is watching everything they do with regards to the clean up and dismantling of this facility. Numerous crowd sourced, outside monitoring groups sprung up as a result of the initial misinformation. This ensures that everyone will be kept up to date with trustworthy information. The Sun's accusation against the government of Japan are just not true. The crowdsourcing sites verify that Japan is telling the truth about radiation levels and containment activity.
